The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has taken the decision to postpone the civil services exam as a nationwide lockdown has been extended for two more weeks. As per officials, a call on this regard will be taken after May 20.

The UPSC has said that it would be difficult to conduct the exam pan India as more than nine lakh candidates will appear in the exam.

Several states have extended the lockdown period till May 17 – the third phase of the lockdown. In such a situation, it would be difficult to conduct the exam on the due date. Speaking to media, the officials said that USPC has done what needs to be done.

“The date will be decided in due course of time after evaluating the situation,” Since the examination also serves as the screening test for Indian Forest Service Examination, the schedule of Indian Forest Service Examination is also deferred.

Earlier today Union Minister Jitendra Singh has told ANI that UPSC & SSC examinations that were put on hold due to lockdown, will definitely take place. We will take a call after May 3 & reschedule dates in a manner that it gives sufficient time to all the aspirants to reach their designated examination centers.

The Commission has already deferred– Personality test for remaining candidates for the Civil Services Examination, 2019 Notification for the Indian Economic Service/Indian Statistical Service Examination, 2020 Notification for the Combined Medical Services Examination, 2020 Notification for the Central Armed Police Forces Examination, 2020 NDA & Naval Academy Examination, 2020 Whenever the dates would be announced, it would be ensured that candidates are given a notice of at least 30 days.

Nearly 10 lakh people have registered for the civil preliminary examination this year. Approximately 1.6 lakh functionaries will participate in conducting civil services exams across 2,500 centers. Other premier exams like Haryana Civil Services, slated to be held on June 5, have been postponed.
